I attended a walkthrough with Senior Curator Bennett Simpson of Carl Andre: Sculpture as Place, 1958–2010 at MOCA Geffen (curated by Philippe Vergne and Yasmil Raymond). There were no photographs allowed, which is a shame. I love the exhibition—sublime, simple, peaceful, orderly. I also had a quick walk through Sterling Ruby's Soft Work, which is lots of fun. Hard not to touch these pieces.

I drove down to Palm Springs for the day to check out the Palm Springs Art Museum. It was truly delightful. I'll do a whole post of images from the permanent collection and special exhibition. Super fun to catch up with my Mama and also check out Sunnylands. Hooray for the benevolence of the uber rich.

Back in Los Angeles, I was struck (once again) this corner. That super big type, the row of pay phones, the fences and barbed wire, the brutalist concrete of the building. It's L.A. It's a corner of tough moments but also probably of elation and happy ones. (Oh and the plumbing cracks me up. No attempt to hide it or incorporate it into the hardscape.)
