Days 14 + 15 #100DaysStudioObj

I keep both of these small framed pieces on display in my studio. Despite offers, I cannot part with them.

I've been using this simple collage technique of slicing images in strips and then combining them for years. I call it "cut-ups".

The top cut-up of Christina Aguilera is uncomplicated, but I believe highly effective. Two images from the same photo spread in W Magazine (my forever muse) sliced and recombined. I posted it on my Tumblr with the hashtag #xtina and next thing you know by the end of the day a couple hundred people had reblogged it. My first viral post experience.

I made several cut-ups that day, all 4" x 6", including a few of just texture featuring the beautiful dresses Christina was wearing. I took the leftover scraps and a miscellaneous piece found on my drafting table of a woman's face from a vintage advertisement and created the second image above. This often happens where my favorite collage of the day is the one that is the most spontaneous.
