An economic circle in my DTLA life
Commerce:
- clear out storage unit to save money and downsize
- this includes selling beloved books to The Last Bookstore, in batches
- TLB regularly buys 1/4 of books, I donate the remaining 3/4 for them to sell for a $1
- take $20 from the book sale, walk down the street to CVS
- buy a cane
- give cane to the homeless guy I keep an eye on
- repeat (but next time it's a sandwich)
The taking money from TLB and going shopping at CVS gives me pause. I'm grateful for independent businesses like The Last Bookstore for their staying power and strong presence downtown. And: books! I'm grateful for CVS for turning a desolate corner into a safe, convenient place to shop. I'm happy they both employ people, sweep the sidewalk, attract pedestrians. And I'm grateful that I can be a patron to both and help in small ways people and businesses in my neighborhood.
